Ceramic metal halide (CMH) lighting has been becoming more and more popular for growing Cannabis indoors.

In this video, we go over what a CMH is, how they work, and our personal opinion on how they perform in the garden.

Thinking about LED instead? The homie Mr. Grow It has videos on that and more:

  2. H4WK69 says:

I replaced my old mars hydro 600w for an Optic 4 from the Optic Grow Light site, i was gonna go with CMH but heard bad results from people i know that were experimenting with them, i get amazing results with the Optic 4 though, i went from harvesting four to five ounces with the mars hydro to over ten ounces with the optic 4, i use soil and my grow space is less than 4'x4'

What’s up fellas great video! Can y’all discuss the difference between the 3100k and 4200k bulbs for these 315w cmh units? Still a little confused on the difference. Thanks in advance.

I was just thinking what kind of growing light I'd like to install for my next grow. I currently have a Spectrabox XTR 600W LED (Cree+COB) but still missing the UVB light indeed. Besides the CMH's light spectrum I'm also a big fan of their light reflection compared to LED's. Any benefit if I'd install a CMH next to my LED for my next grow? Thanks for the upload Rob and Trey, sending some milky Amnezia Haze smoke from Belgium to you guys. Stay lifted.

Guys, I love our culture. I'm white…I was in a shitty part of town on Friday night getting some money at an atm, two black dudes walked by and I smelled the weed. I said "hey guys, you smokin?" They said "yeah man, wanna share it?" I ended up smoking a j with them and ended up going for a few beers with them and then another j after before I went home. Meeting their wives and kids with my wife and kid for a BBQ next weekend. This brings us together man. Love the channel, keep it up.

    Will a 315 cover a 2×4..??

  8. freeisalwaysme says:

Running a HLG 600W QB LED in a 5×5. No problems with heat. The upfront expense is worth the long term savings in electricity. And since LEDs don't produce the same level of IR that blubs do. You are able to run your tent into the mid 80's no problem. You guys should check out "Migro" youtube channel. He has a chart that ranks LED lights that he test on efficiency.

  9. KDubbz Four20 says:

I used a 315 cmh in a 5×5 from veg to flower all the way to harvest. I had 4 autoflowers under it and harvested 2 1/2 lbs prittey impressive and quality was amazing

Thank you for all advices, i am in my very first grow in 4×4 with 600w hps phillips starting week 4 flowring with 9 plants in 3 gallon pots, feeding with advanced nutrients sensi grow & bloom, voodoo juice, b52, big bud, big candy and overdrive. For instance my grow is going well, have a full canopy, but i think i could have a better balance inside my tent… Do you think, for my next grow i will have better performence if i replace my light 600w hps for 1 cmh 315w? Sorry for my english, i am from Switzerland.

Did 1500w led first grow. Hydroponics RDWC custom water revitalization setup I engineered. It saves me water and it keeps my ladies healthy in the root zone. Had the chiller at 58° which by the time the pump and lighting effects water was 62-64° air temps 75-80° leds gave me airy buds… I’m looking into CMH. I’m setup in a 4×4 only did 2 plants. Like to do 4 if possible in 4×4 hydro.

Hey guys, and wassup YouTube grow community!?! I just switched from some old busted LED’s to a Sun System 120v 315cmh in a 4x4x6.5’.. it came with a 4200k bulb, I’m currently vegging now but I was wondering when I switch to flower if I should change out my bulb to a 3100k I noticed the other unit came with and what’s up with running a 10k just weeks before you chop? Will I need all 3 cmh bulbs throughout my grow? And if I can keep the temps down should I add my LED’s maybe as a side light during flower? Thanks for any help!

Betting that when society collapses we'll be able to salvage some bikes and alternators and power up all these house grows and grow food underground. Our descendants will thank the stoners of old for how their desire to get high DIY produced such fine survival tech. I bet the fine genetics will survive to some extent as well. It's good to know people will likely be able to get high during tough times. Or we'll pull some magic tech solution out of the hat, star trek replicators that can turn all the garbage directly into whatever you want. Knowing us, that would start what would be known as the Replicator Wars in later times as assholes fought to be sole controller of such epic tech.

I'm using 315w. Right now in my 5x5x6.6 tent. Should I go 630w for flower? Or keep it as 315w? I just have 2 plants in the tent in dwc setup.

  22. steve payne says:

    Cltv I use 2 315s in a 4x8x6 1/2

  24. luisdeleon87 says:

Hey guys great videos well informative. Can you recommend a setup you like using? Where can you purchase online?

  25. Deadnsd says:

    How's the 640wCMH with only 66,000 lumens better than a 600wHPS with 90,000 lumens???

  26. ugroove2this1 says:

Finally have the environment dialed in but I’ve seen different suggestions on distance of your CMH away from the canopy. What do you guys suggest? Currently at seedling stage still, maybe 3” tall after a week and they look happy and healthy but I’ve kept the ballast around 34” up because of previous heat issues. Like I said environment is good now and would to hear what you guys suggest. Love the vids..and thanks!

  27. Peter Vigna says:

I got 500+ grams from a 630 on a mover still think i could have got more

  28. Mike Love says:

Can you do a review on the cmh 630

  29. E Lancaster says:

I had an old, I mean like early 2000’s old Sun System 600w HPS and 400w MH combined into one hood and run off a single ballast and I’ve never worked with a better light in almost 3 decades. I’m jumping on the CMH train and plan on using a 315 for each 3×3 space and hung 18” over the canopy as they don’t get nearly as hot and the only negative compared with HPS in my experience is the light penetration so hopefully hanging them lower will remedy that issue.

  30. M&S BLADES says:

Rob? Been binge watching your videos all day. Since I am going to be using the 315 cmh .  I realize they cover a 3x3ft area so with 2 I can cover a 3x6ft area right? also can you clone under these as well?  Thanks again M

  31. mac3hines says:

There are far superior CMH bulbs spectrum wise, than Phillips and I can
get them to you at a fraction of the cost!

  32. D K says:

You guys still fans of the CMH since it’s been a little while?
