  1. SylwerDragon says:

Nice video. As i'm owner of ASrock motherboard and I'm using only 2950 I'm glad it is good choice for me 🙂

  2. Alberto Martinez says:

Ok just why they can't include Cooper heatsinks just like we had in so many boards some years ago it's beyond me. Just how much more they would need to charge for proper heatsinks on already expensive boards?

  3. spektrumB says:

I'm surprised Asus and ASrock use the same 8-phase VRM, same Mosfet. However ASrock performs so much poorer. I doubt the heatsinks and the little 40mm fan on Asus makes so much difference. Can anyone explain?

  4. alienb1212 says:

No way, Gigabyte puts out another shit product? Who knew.

  5. Dr. Fresh_2k says:

Why does Asus always make the best products? Like they are always on top. The only company I know that can stand up to Asus is Accer and that is only with Monitors.

  6. Kerstin says:

Two arrows are missing in the diagram at 4:00

  7. Kerstin says:

This was an excellent video. It would have been glorious slaughter if the MEG had fins on the heatsink

  8. Dave Lead says:

Oof. I'm regretting the purchase of Aorus Xtreme a little now.
Though the cpu I'm pairing it with isn't 240W and neither am I overclocking…

  9. Benjamin Columbus says:

This is exactly the kind of motherboard review I've always wanted to see. Fully looking at the VRM and heatsinking. Fantastic video.

  10. Soap A says:

lol poor “Meg,” first Family Guy, now still not loved on a motherboard.

  11. jadoei13 says:

I suppose you know, but be careful when using ir gun, they aren't very accurate on reflective surfaces and stuff, using a nice and callibrated k type thermocouple would probably be more accurate.

  12. johnathan hughes says:

not often you see products flat out failing, crazy. very good video, best in a while gents!

  13. Viking 2121 says:

I love these reviews, Gives me an idea of what boards to recommend to people rather then taking a gamble.

  14. Ali Nadem says:

Excellent review especially for the vrm info

  15. John Totten says:

If I was buying one of these I would buy the Asus Zenith Extreme.

  16. Larry Gall says:

1.25v and 1.4v? Ryzen CPUs will need around 1.35-1.37v to run a stable 4 GHz on all cores. I have mine (1800x) set up that way now. I can run 4.05 stable at 1.37v. At 4.1 GHz it needs 1.39-1.41v. I had 4.2 GHz running at 1.45v, but I didn't want to leave it there. Got a 1920 CB15 score at 4.1 GHz. These boards will fall short powering this many cores. X499 needs to call for a new power envelope.

  17. Jin Kong says:

Definitely quality video! Worth to wait and watch full video.

  18. BAGUS BAMBU says:

thi is pure programmer. no fancy addon on front ( jack disc drive etc )

  19. Nedeljko Kovacevic says:

    Superb work as usual!

  20. Darko Sola says:

This all applies only if you overclock it, otherwise, all MBs work just fine. So price difference do matter in that case.

  21. Vladek16 says:

that's so weird. OC3D did compare the MSI Meg Creation and the Zenith Extreme and the temperature gap was way bigger, with the creation leading by a lot.
How can you have so different results ?

  22. carbonsx says:

    Excellent review, Steve. Thanks!

  23. Przemysław Łukawski says:

Hi, it seems that low performance in gaming on this chip is a result of nVidia drivers: https://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Car…r-2990WX-Tested
New version of drivers improves the performance a lot. Maybe you will retest that chip in Gaming?

  24. Nafis Ahmed says:

I think you are telling the opposite about the heatsink temps, the hotter the heatsink the cooler the ICs beneath it since it is successfully absorbing the heat from it? I might be wrong.

  25. Matthew Snelling says:

I think there is almost certainly an interaction effect between the two vrm fans and the active airflow in the case. You probably shouldn't "almost guarantee" that the fans are useless under these conditions without removing them and doing the test. The truth is that, without a counterfactual, you can't know, and it's quite plausible that the small fans could be benefiting greatly from some active airflow to feed them. I don't normally have a negative thought about the videos on this channel, but that was just bad science, Steve. Otherwise, keep up the good work!

  26. GAMarine137 says:

I have the MSI board and love it

  27. Aereto says:

I wish I could get that… not for gaming, but for more serious stuff.

  28. Damocles says:

I guess Asus can. In Asus We Trust.

  29. Anibal Enrique says:

Will these boards run the 2990wx out of the box or a bios update is needed?

  30. Bruno Salezze Vieira says:

Very good job Steve. But the results of the Z1E are strange, the board have half of the current capability of the MEG. Did you checked if wasnt power throthling? Like running a bechmark to check if asus scores the same as the MEG on 4.0Ghz

  31. the one you dont see says:

what about the TR-2970WX on the asrock?

  32. movax20h says:

Damn. I was thinking getting Asrock one, because I had reasonable experience with them in the past. But this isn't that great.

Are there any water blocks for VRMs for any of these boards that one could buy somewhere?

  33. Toms Tech says:

You want the meg board with gigabyte heatsinks with Asus software in other words.

  34. Shorne Pubique says:

good Video. thank's for sharing Hardy bois

  35. Krzysztof Wu says:

    ASRock X399 FATAL ERROR

  36. Sunshine Starcraft says:

I think we should stop looking at pure VRM phases number and start comparing the VRM component quality. It seems like asus is starting to use more advanced components under less phases but it deliver at much or even better performance in the end.

  37. Janis S says:

I feel like @ Gigabyte half the design decisions are made in an appropriate corporate fashion and the other half are a drunken friday crapshoot at some taiwanese karaoke bar.

  38. Jonathan Emms says:

19:52 forgot to remove the motherboard socket protective cover

  39. Sam Wainwright says:

Really appreciate that you guys do this sort of testing on mobos. Such a good resource.

  40. kkgen says:

    Question:
If you run 2990wx in a gaming legacy 1/2 mode….does it lower temperature/loudness/wattage use to the same performance as 2950x?
    Regards.

  41. Mutaz Alhawash says:

Meg is crap! You crap and you don't know what a Meg is
