16:33 This "fake news" is different that outright propaganda though. If you look at human society as a gigantic organism, the incorporation of the internet has changed it. The inherent properties lead to amplification of certain signals and they are not of the cerebral kind. Even if there was no foul play, we as a mass of people gravitate to stupid, sensationalist and outrageous or traumatic news.
The insidious propaganda now is that free speech is some kind of holy right. That people have a RIGHT to lie and make up facts. We need to establish systems that counteract this, something like a public independent fund (the fourth estate) that supports independent media, bloggers and youtubers that do objectively and rational good journalism. Positive reinforcement instead of passive acceptance of the propaganda and just outright crazy.
Furthermore through paid troll tanks and bots the internet is becoming a better "prison of the mind" than any newspaper ever could.

I enjoy your show via Youtube and the requisite VPN needed to watch it here in Beijing, China. Only discovered Craig Ferguson after he already left Late Night as I've been over here for nearly 20 years and kind of out of touch with what's on TV in the US or pretty much anywhere else. I binge watched every one of Craig's LLShows I could also on Youtube. Unlike most TV I enjoyed his show and was sad to see him retire from that show.
I never ever sit this long to watch people talking and I hardly ever even watch movies but I knew Craig Ferguson was somebody worth watching and I have some time. Now he just inspired me to get crackin' on my science fiction short stories and I really related to what he was saying about the discipline of short stories. I think I'm in love.
