I'm surprised that with Trump in office, all Americans aren't on some sort of numbing agent. It's getting so a sane person can't function in today's society.

This is "fake news." They are comparing people 50 through 64 in 2006 with people 50 through 64 today. In 2006 the oldest Boomer was 60. A lot of the people 50 through 64 in 2006 weren't Boomers and the fact is that the oldest Boomers were a lot less likely to have ever smoked pot than those born later who came of age in the Seventies when pot use was really taking off in this country. Those 50 through 64 today were born in the Fifties and Sixties. A lot of them aren't Boomers. The youngest Boomer today is 53 and will turn 54 this year. They aren't comparing Boomers of today to Boomers of 2006.

All that is happening is that people who were smoking pot in the Seventies are getting older, and quite a few still smoke weed. Marijuana use started taking off in the Sixties but mainly in college towns. It really took off in the Seventies and peaked in '79 or '80 according to government survey data. I was a young person in those days and I hardly knew anyone around my age that didn't at least try pot. Kids were doing it a lot more than today. A much higher percentage of high school kids were doing it then than now according to survey data. Most don't smoke it anymore, but quite a few do still now in their Fifties and Sixties, especially those born from around 1955 to 1965 according to the data.

Good! People are perfectly capable of making their own decisions so the state and their silly laws can just leave it alone!

For older folks like baby boomers, Marijuana is safe relatively. Their brain can get the beneficial side effect by stimulating the brain function which will 'prevent' dementia etc. For younger folks, teen agers and college age young adults, they should not just consider physical aspects as their brain will be influenced big time negatively. The stimulation of young brains can lead to onset of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, … which once triggered at any time will last for life. The pleasure that Marijuana smoking brings to young people is not worth risking lifelong severe mental illness. Remember, the severe mental illness is worse than terminal degree cancers. Marijuana = good for older folks, terribly bad for younger folks.
